Monday's Homework: Click on the web link to go to author Ken Nesbitt's poetry site. Click on and then read the different funny poems. Once you have read at least 4 poems, choose the one you liked the most. Write a paragraph explaining which one is your favorite and why. Make sure you remember to write the title with correct capitalization and quotation marks. http://www.poetry4kids.com/poems
My favorite poem was "Ancient." I liked it because it was talking about how old the dad was, and saying that he was older than the internet. I liked how it makes you think that he is super old like three hundred or a thousand. My favorite part was the ending when it said that Dad was turning thirty. I thought this poem was hilarious.
Wednesday's Homework: (Please DO NOT do this ahead of time because you will need some instruction in class before completing this.) Go to the following website to read the poem. Look up in a dictionary any words you do not know. Type a paragraph explaining what you think the author is trying to say in his poem. Then on plain paper, draw and color an illustration that would go with the poem. Turn it in when you get to school. http://www.storyit.com/Classics/JustPoems/shadow.htm
In this poem, "My Little Shadow," I think that the author is talking about how the shadow follows him in different ways. Once it is as long as a giant, then it is as small as a mouse. It also talks about how his shadow mimics him in every way. Another way he explains his shadow is by saying how cowardly his shadow acts by always staying close to him. "My Little Shadow," definitely tells how Robert's shadow follows him around, no mater how big it is.
